Preventive Patrol

The Malcolm X College Campus is patrolled on foot and by the security vehicle.  Security Officers aggressively and systematically cover their beats frequently at regular intervals to prevent criminal activity on campus.  Security Officers take action on any violation they may observe, and render aid to those who need it.

Search of the Persons

Security Officers on patrol may make an arrest.  After making a lawful arrest, a Security Officer may search the persons or the individual arrested for the purpose of:

  • Protecting the college and any persons legally participating in any college activities.
  • Preventing any illegal activities.
  • Discovering any criminal activity, evidence or any item which may constitute, evidence of an offense (Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 720, Section 5/108-1).
  • Any activity that may cause the college to be disrupted from its normal functions.

Searches during temporary questioning may be under the provisions of Chapter 720; Section 108-1.01 for weapons where the officer has reasonable grounds to believe the officer or another is in danger of attack.

Security Cameras

Security cameras were installed at Malcolm X College to assist the Security Office. The installing of security cameras at Malcolm X College is a positive use of modern technology to assist in discovering and eliminating crime.  The cameras are used as an additional patrol tool by officers to check the campus for suspicious or illegal activities.  If any illegal activity is discovered through camera surveillance, Security Officers are immediately dispatched to apprehend and arrest any criminal element.

Stops and Questioning

Security Officers have the authority to stop and challenge anyone on campus for probable cause. Suspicious persons are checked out to provide a safe and tranquil environment for students and other members of the college. (Chapter 720, Section 5/107-14, Illinois Compiled Statutes).

Unauthorized Office Opening

Anyone requesting a room with equipment opened by telephone will have to be identified as an instructor or staff member of that department.  The instructor or staff member must be present when the office is opened and will assume full responsibility once the office is opened.
