FINANCIAL AID FACT SHEET

 

Students interested in receiving federal or state Student Financial Aid such as Pell Grant, FSEOG, ACG, Federal Work Study, Illinois Student Assistance Commission’s MAP Grant or other federal and state funded financial aid programs while attending Malcolm X College, must complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov ). Upon completion of the FAFSA applicants will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) within an estimated 21 days if only a mailing address is provided on the application and an estimated 3-5 days if an email address is provided. The student is to submit or have the Institutional Student Aid Report (ISIR) electronically transmitted to the Malcolm X College (by including the MXC School Code: 001650 on the FAFSA) Financial Aid Office along with any requested documentation prior to receiving a tuition deferment.

 

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID STUDENTS MUST ALSO

 

 

A) Meet Federal “Ability to Benefit” requirements, as confirmed by one of the following documents on file in the Records Office:

  1. High School Graduation (verified by official high school transcript)
  2. GED (verified by official GED Test Scores)
  3. Have Placement Test Scores consistent with Department of Education regulations regarding Ability to Benefit requirements

B) Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by the Chicago City Colleges (see Chicago City Colleges Student Academic Policy, please refer to: http://ccc.edu/ss/Student_Policy_Manual.shtml
C) Have not exceeded maximum credit hour limits for financial aid eligibility
D) Not have a recent drug conviction (see advisor for more details) E) Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student working toward a degree or advanced certificate in an eligible program. Certificate programs must require a minimum of 30 credit hours for completion to be financial aid eligible. GED, ALSP, ESL, PCI, Audit and other non-credit courses are not financial aid eligible
F) Have not earned a Baccalaureate degree
G) Other restrictions may apply

 

ALL STUDERNTS UPON REQUEST MUST:

 

A) Submit a fully processed Federal “Student Aid Report” (SAR) or Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) indicating Malcolm X College as a school of choice
B) Submit proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency

C) Submit income documents such as tax returns, W-2 statements, etc.
D) Submit verification of your Social Security Number and that of your parent(s) if you are a dependent student
E) Complete a Verification Worksheet

F) Document Illinois Residency (state programs) G) G) Document Selective Service Registration or Exemption Status

H) Submit all other documents requested to verify eligibility

ALL STUDENTS UPON REQUEST MUST PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION
OF ALL FAMILY FINANCIAL RESOURCES/OR OTHER INCOME

(Students classified as dependent must provide documentation for themselves and their parents)
Acceptable documentation may include but is not limited to one or more of the following items:


A. TAXABLE INCOME

  1. 2007 Federal Income Tax Return (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ) with appropriate schedules and signatures (It may take up to 15 days to receive copies from IRS)
B. CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS
  1. Court decree or signed statement certifying amounts received E. VETERANS BENEFITSE.
C. NON-TAX FILERS WITH INCOME FROM WORK OR OTHER SOURCES
  1. Statement from IRS indicating non-filing status
  2. 2007 W-2 forms or statement from employer
  3. Signed statement verifying source and amount of and/or other support documents
D. PUBLIC AID
  1. Current Medical Card/s and /or Statement of benefits received from January through December 2007
E. UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
  1. End of Year Report stating amount received from January through December 2007
  2. Current 2007 Benefit Claim Letter
F. VETERANS BENEFITS
  1. Veteran’s Administration Entitlement Letter stating the type and amount of expected educational benefits for the 2008-2009 award period

G. SOCIAL SECURITY AND RAILROAD RETIREMENT BENEFITS

  1. End of the year report stating type and total amount received for anyone living in the household
H. NO INCOME (refugee or ward of the court or incarcerated)
  1. See Financial Aid Advisor

ALL STUDENTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION
WHICH MAY INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO NOTARIZED LETTERS, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, PARENT’S SIGNATURES ON REQUIRED STATEMENTS, VERIFICATION OF HOUSEHOLD SIZE OR DOCUMENTATION OF NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS IN COLLEGE AND VERIFICATION OF ILLINOIS RESIDENCY

 

Students applying for the Illinois Student Assistance Commission Monetary Award Program for attendance at Malcolm X College must identify Malcolm X College 001650 as their school of choice on the FAFSA.

 

SPECIAL NOTES FOR STUDENTS WHO:

  1. ARE CONCURRENTLY ENROLLED (Enrolled at two or more colleges at the same time.)  A student cannot legally receive financial aid at more than one institution at a time.  You must notify the MXC advisor if you are receiving financial aid at another post secondary institution.
  2. LOST THE "SAR"   Please apply for a duplicate as soon as possible. Duplicates from the Processing Center take approximately 15 working days to receive.  Or if you know your PIN number, we can request a duplicate electronically.  Malcolm X College cannot request a duplicate or make corrections to your student aid report unless we have been identified as a school choice on your FAFSA or you provide us with your DRN #.  Your DRN # is found on the bottom section of page 1 of your SAR.
  3. NEED A BOOK VOUCHER?Students, who have received a financial aid award letter or have a deferment for registration, can go on line at my.ccc.edu for a book voucher.  Book vouchers are normally available about two weeks before the start of classes.  Students who have not completed registration will not be able to view a voucher.
  4. NEED INFORMATION ON SCHOLARSHIPS?Visit www.fastweb.com, www.ccc.edu , www.fatomei.com , www.hsf.net  or collegezone.com to start your search.
  5. NEED TO REQUEST A FAFSA PIN No.?  Visit www.pin.ed.gov. To do an initial FAFSA on the web, access your Renewal FAFSA, make corrections electronically and “sign” your FAFSA on the web you will need FAFSA Pin No.
