
TRiO
TRiO programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education to help low-income, disabled, or first-generation college students achieve a college education. Students who participate in the program are eligible for academic support services geared towards their academic success at Malcolm X College.
Student Support Services (SSS)
The Student Support Services program works hand-in-hand with the Academic Support Center to help students successfully complete their postsecondary education. The goal of SSS is to increase the retention and graduation rates of its participants.
Free Services Provided by TRiO SSS
Our services include:
- Academic advisement
- Career counseling
- Computer-assisted instruction
- Tutorial services
- Workshops/Cultural Enrichment Activities
- Financial Assistance
Requirements to Participate in TRiO SSS
Students must be:

Enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Malcolm X College

First generation and/or low-income, or disabled

Enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours

Pursuing an associate degree OR planning to transfer to a four-year college/university
Each student who participates in SSS at Malcolm X College MUST:
- Attend a TRiO SSS orientation session
- Participate in tutoring sessions and/or workshops
- Update a TRiO SSS advisor about current progress
Benefits of Participation in TRiO SSS
According to the U.S. Department of Education, students in the TRiO Student Support Services program are more than twice as likely to remain in college than students from similar backgrounds who do not participate in the program. Take advantage of the services we provide!
