Disability Access Center
The Disability Access Center helps break down many of the obstacles and barriers encountered by students with special needs. The college does not discriminate and is dedicated to assuring that each student with special needs reach their maximum academic potential.
The Disability Access Center provides support services to individuals who have a disability. The Disability Access Center provides support services to those students enrolled or enrolling in the college with the necessary tool for success at Malcolm X College.
The Following Support Services are offered at MXC:
Adaptive Equipment Usage
Tape recorders and other adaptive equipment are available to students by request.
Emergency Evacuation
Procedures are given to students and are posted throughout the college.
Referrals to Campus Resources
Information is provided to the following; academic advisement, financial aid, tutoring, transfer center and job/career placement.
Referral to Community Resources and Government Agencies
Information is provided on how to obtain adaptive equipment, tape recorded books, transportation services, individual tutorial services and disability assessment.
Special Arrangements
Arrangement are made with the instructor, if appropriate, to allow note taker, proctor and interpreter services. This service also includes un-timed exams, usage of tape recorder or other adaptive equipment in the classroom.
Support Staff
This office has a supportive and friendly staff which provides the following services to eligible students; interpreters, note takers, readers and transcribers.
Eligibility
Malcolm X College services are only available to eligible students. In order to qualify for service, you must be able to provide proper documentation regarding your disability.
