Remember, it is important to register early!  Registration ends two business days before class begins unless alternative arrangements are made with this office.

Learning never ends!  Whether you want to start a new career, learn to dance, speak another language, take control of your finances, or just have some fun, Malcolm X College has the class for you!

Plan to start your own business by enrolling in one of our many entrepreneurial programs, including Setting Up Your Business Web site, Starting a Home-Based Virtual Assistant Business, and Writing Your Business Plan.

Get to Steppin’!  MXC just wouldn’t be MXC if we didn’t offer Chicago-style Stepping classes for participants of all ability levels.  If stepping isn’t your cup of tea, then join us for classes in Latin Dance, Chinese Folk Dance, Floral Design, Foreign Languages, the Music Business and more.

Get “Fit and Fabulous” in our brand new personal training series, designed for adults of all fitness levels and abilities.  No one is too fast or too slow, too tall or too short, too big or too small to participate in this group.  And when you’re done, enroll in our Personal Trainer Certification Preparation program so you can share what you learned!

A few course highlights:



Computerized Medical Billing and Coding Program
Medical Billing and Coding is a rapidly growing industry!  Health care facilities are having trouble attracting enough qualified workers.  The Medical Billing and Coding program at Malcolm X College prepares students to fill positions as medical coding and billing professionals. Upon successful completion of the Medical Billing and Coding course, students will be prepared for an entry-level position doing medical billing or coding in a medical office setting and will be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder national certification exam.
The first course in this program, Anatomy and Physiology, will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, October 20 - December 3, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., $225

 

 

CPR Certification
This course provides the information, training, demonstration, and practice necessary to pass the written examination and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation acceptable to American Heart Association standards.
Classes are held on the last Saturday of each month
9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Mortgage Loan Originator
Begin a new career as a Mortgage Loan Originator. Learn all aspects of loan origination in our comprehensive, state-approved course. This course will provide a background in the field of mortgage loan processing, and is ideal for beginners and professionals wanting to understand the mortgage loan paper flow process. Students will receive hands-on training in state-of-the-art software currently used in the mortgage industry. Prerequisites: Students must have a basic ability to use computers. A mortgage calculator is required.

Beginning Karate: Self-Defense for Children and Teens (Ages 5 – 16)
Students learn to strengthen their natural physical and mental abilities. Karate develops self-confidence and discipline and increases fitness level. Learn the basic techniques of self-defense.  Students select one of two sessions.

Beginning Swim (Adults)
This course teaches adults fundamental water safety, how to float, and basic swimming techniques.

Active Living Every Day
Good intentions don’t always produce good results. People want to eat better and be more active, but they sometimes don’t have the skills to make it happen. This course is the tool needed to help someone who is struggling get started on their way to a healthy lifestyle. Active Living Every Day’s main objective is helping people integrate physical activity into their daily lives so that it naturally becomes part of their lifestyle. The instructor, Jacqueline Carson, has been facilitating behavior modification course throughout the Chicagoland  area for several years. She is also a certified personal trainer.

14 Mondays, Total Cost: $150 (Participants must register for both sessions)
