MISSION STATEMENT
Malcolm X Child Development Center serves children ages 3-5 years of age.
- We are committed to providing high quality services to children and families as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
- We are committed to helping young, at-risk children grow up safe, healthy and eager to learn.
- Our principles and practices are based on lessons learned from continual research and implementation within the field of early childhood education.
- Our children’s success will demonstrate the societal and economic value of investing in the earliest years in order to prevent the need for costly interventions later.
OUR GOALS FOR FAMILIES
1. To build partnerships with families
To involve families in program’s planning and evaluation process.
To listen to and discuss families’ questions, concerns, observations, and insights about their children.
To communicate regularly with families at arrival and departure times.
2. To support families in their parenting role
To demonstrate respect for a family’s approach to childrearing and their feelings about sharing the care of their child
To incorporate family rituals and preferences into the daily life of the program
3. To support families in their role as primary educators of their child
To encourage family involvement and participation in program activities
To provide families with strategies to support children’s learning at home
4. To ensure that the home cultures of the children’s families are reflected in the program
To seek families’ assistance in learning about the children’s home culture
To interact with children in a style that is respectful of their home culture
To support children’s use of their home language.
OUR GOALS FOR CHILDREN
Social and Emotional Development – achieve a since of self; taking on responsibility for themselves and others; and behaving in a prosocial way.
Physical Development – achieving large motor control; achieving small motor control; self help skills and manipulate small objects.
Cognitive development – learning and problem solving. Thinking logically; representing and thinking symbolically.
Language development – listening and speaking; children will use spoken language to communicate with others, while expanding their vocabulary, and expressing themselves. Children will understand the oral language of others and participate in conversations with others. Children will use language to solve problems; children will be able to make sense of print and understand the purpose of print and how it works. Children will gain alphabet awareness and the knowledge to write letters and words.
