Chicago, Illinois, November 2009 ---- Malcolm X College and the Bolozi Wazee/ Shule Ya Watoto (Council of Elders) are hosting the 15th Annual Kwanzaa Observance Program, December 26, 2009 – January 1, 2010, the largest known seven-day celebration of Kwanzaa in the country publicly held in an institution of higher learning. The event will include performing artists, public speakers, cultural activities, and regional vendors. The event remains free and open to the public.

Malcolm X College opens its doors at 10:00 a.m. daily so guests may visit the African Marketplace to support local businesses, purchase, and learn about traditional clothing, food, and more. The program begins at 12:00 p.m., except for Sunday (begins at 2:00 p.m.) with the Kwanzaa Ritual and an explanation of the Principal for the Day; followed by cultural entertainment.

The Bolozi Wazee/ Shule Ya Watoto (Council of Elders) is an association of elders who serve as a link between the past and the present.

The goal of the collaboration is to increase public participation in practice and understanding of the Kwanzaa celebration.
