Get to know your veterans benefit coordinator
Veterans should see the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in Room 1424 for more details concerning tuition payment extensions and enrollment certification of other types of veterans' benefits.
The veterans benefits coordinator provides payment extensions to students who present letters of eligibility for the following programs:
- The Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG) Program pays eligible tuition and mandatory fees. Benefits are limited to use only at Illinois public colleges or community colleges.
- To apply for the Illinois National Guard (ING) Grant click below. Return acceptance letter to the MXC-VA office room 1424.
- MIA-POW
If you are the dependent of a person who was an Illinois resident at the time he/she entered active duty and has been declared to be a prisoner of war, missing in action, dead as a result of a service-connected disability, or disabled with a 100 percent disability as the result of a service-connected cause as recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the U.S. Department of Defense, you may be eligible to receive the MIA/POW Scholarship.

Veterans Educational Benefits

Those students who have served in the armed forces of the United States may have certain federal and/or state benefits available to them. Malcolm X College is approved by the Illinois Department of Veterans' and has personnel trained to assist eligible veterans in applying for entitlements. Some of the programs available to veterans include:
- Chapter 30
G.I. Bill (Montgomery)-Provides monthly stipend while attending an approved program. - Chapter 31
Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits-For occupational retraining of veterans with service related injuries. - Chapter 33
Post 9/11 GI Bill
Persons who who served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, who are still on active duty or were honorably discharged from active duty, may be eligible for benefits. Benefits are payable for training pursued on or after August 1, 2009. Based on the length of active duty service, you are entitled to a percentage of the cost of tuition and fees, not to exceed the most expensive in-state undergraduate tuition at a public institution (paid to school); monthly housing allowance* equal to the BAH for E-5 with dependents in the same zip code as the institution (paid to you); and yearly book and supplies stipend up to $1000 per year (paid to you). *The housing allowance is not payable to those pursuing training at half time of less to individuals enrolled in distance learning only.

Veterans' Dependents Allowance-Educational benefits for dependents of deceased or disabled veterans and MIA/POW's. - Work-Study Program-Permits eligible veterans to perform services for the Department of Veterans Affairs in return for a monetary allowance.

FAFSA on-line
You begin the financial aid process at MXC with a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We strongly encourage you to complete and electronically sign the FAFSA on-line by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov. Include the MXC School Code 001650 to have your Student Aid Report sent to the financial aid office.
