New Students - Credit, Adult Ed, Continuing Ed.
If registering any time other than Open Registration Week, start at the Admissions and Records Office located at the east end of the 1st floor in Room 1502. If you are new to credit courses, transferring from another college, pursuing a GED or taking Continuing Education course, the Admissions and Records Office is here to assist you.
Open Registration Week (One week to prior to the first day of class)
If registering during Open Registration Week, follow these steps:
STATION 1. (Please bring valid identification)
Status Station (West Van Buren Street – Lobby)
- At the status station new and returning students will have their academic, residential, and financial status checked:
- Residency is classified as “in district” (Chicago resident), “out-of-district” (Non-Chicago Resident), and “out-of-state” (Non-Illinois Resident)
- Holds: does the student have any holds (academic, business, financial aid)
- Those students who have a hold which will prevent them from registering at that time will be directed to the appropriate station in order to address the hold(s).
- Bio-Demo & Quick Admit: This is primarily for new students to gain admission into the college. Information from student information card is entered into PeopleSoft (database) and student is given a Student ID number and a scheduling card.
Holds (Presidents Foyer)
Students meet with a College Advisor to address holds.
- Hold 01 – Exclude
- Hold 13 – Unsatisfactory Progress
- Hold 14 – Credit Hour Limit
- Hold 02 – Business Hold (02 Holds will be directed to the business office)
STATION 3.
Financial Aid (Academic Support Center-Room 1600)
Students who qualify for financial aid will meet with a Financial Aid Advisor to ensure that all Federal Financial Aid Forms are properly completed.
Students who intend to use financial aid will not be able to register, using a financial aid award/deferment, until their SAR (Student Aid Report) and all required documents are submitted to the Financial Aid Office.
STATION 4.
Placement Testing (Room 1109 inside the Academic Support Center)
- Student must attend Transitions (New Student Orientation) before taking Placement Test
- Student takes the Compass or ATB placement test
- Placement test scores, test waivers, or TOEFL test scores are entered into PeopleSoft (database)
Note: Students submitting ACT Scores must provide official (sealed) scores
STATION 5.
Academic Advising (Academic Support Center-Room 1600)
Student has award letter, is paying cash, by credit card, or other
Meet with College Advisor/Faculty to Choose Classes Room 1600 (ASC)

STATION 6.
Business Office (Academic Support Center-Room 1600)
- To process course registration from financial aid awards/deferments only

STATION 7.
Public Safety & Security Office (Room 1208)
- Obtain Student ID
- Obtain Student Parking Permit
STATION 8.
Student Survey (Jackson and Van Buren Exits)
- Provide feedback about your registration experience
