Eligibility
If you are 18 years or older, you can take Adult Education classes. Students who are age 16 or 17 may also take Adult Education classes, but must provide proof that they are not enrolled in a secondary educational program (high school, alternative high school). The proof may be a Drop/Withdrawal slip from the last school attended.

Credit or non-credit
Adult Education courses do not offer college credit. Most programs do offer certification or a certificate of completion. Consult individual programs for details.

Registration
To register, students must provide proof of address/residency. Acceptable proof of residency can be:

Valid Driver's License
Voter's Registration Card
Public Aid Medical Card
Utility Bill
Foreign Consulate ID Card

New students start the registration process by taking proof of residency to the New Student Service Center, room 1502. Register by.

  1. Completing an “Intake Card” and get instructions for placement testing. All new students are required to take a placement exam to determine the appropriate level for classes.
  2. Taking the placement exam (the exam may take up to three hours).
  3. Meeting with a college advisor in Room 1600, where you will: establish educational goals; enroll in classes; and obtain a Study List (schedule) of classes.
    *Please note–registration is not complete without a current Study List.
  4. Obtaining a Malcolm X College identification (ID) card.
