Open Admission College

Malcolm X College is an open admission college. We welcome applicants who are:

  • Graduating or graduates from accredited high schools.
    GED certified.
  • Transferring from another college or university.
  • 18 years of age or older who have not completed high school but do qualify for college-level work (a placement test is required).
  • Students 16–18 years recommended by their principal or who score at college-level on the placement exam.

Apply for Admission

The City Colleges do not require students to take an admittance test. However, students are required to take a placement test to assess their English, reading and mathematics levels. Students who hold a bachelor's degree or have successfully completed a college level English or mathematics course with a grade of 'C' or better may be eligible to have the placement test requirement waived.

Take Placement Tests

Placement tests are required for all new students. Meet with an Advisor to determine which placement tests you should take. Transfer students should forward an official copy of their transcripts to the Registrar's Office prior to enrollment.
