Phlebotomy
The phlebotomist draws both venous and arterial blood specimens from patients and sends blood to the laboratory. In some cases physician approval is required.
Phlebotomists are the direct link between the patient and the laboratory. The laboratory technologist relies on the phlebotomist’s integrity and accuracy in procuring the proper specimens. Accurate diagnosis of a patient’s condition requires quality work.
Phlebotomy is an entry-level position in the health care industry. Phlebotomists can further their education and become laboratory technicians or technologists.
